Championships

After tonight's victory in Tulsa, I began thinking about the number of championships won under Georgia's past two Athletic Directors. I did a little crunching of the numbers via GeorgiaDogs.com. I counted anything before 1979 as pre-Dooley (as AD), 1979 to 2004 as Dooley and 2005 to present Evans. This is just a rough tally, so I don't know the precise numbers and exact dates of championships and retirements.

National Championships
1785-1978 - 1
Dooley - 23
Evans - 11

SEC Championships
1785-1978 - 40
Dooley - 74
Evans - 16

Averages, per year
Dooley - .89 National Championships
2.87 SEC Championships
(26 years)

Evans
- 2.75 National Championships
4 SEC Championships per year
(4 years)

Once again, I know these are rough, and I know Dooley essentially built a program that Evans is now running, but it's beginning to take on a life after Dooley, and this is beginning to be one the premier athletic associations in the nation, if it is not there already.

Damn Good Dawgs. It's great to be back in your state.

Go Dawgs

Go Dawgs, Indeed. Now, if I could only get the Becca to actually care about her alma mater going down. Instead, she says something about killing one of our players back in the 19th century.

Mississippi to Ogeechee

This has been a long week. Saturday Becca and I graduated then headed to Georgia the next day. Between those two events we packed a U-Haul, drove through tornadoes to Memphis, and picked up my father for the adventure.

Now we are in this city with a pink room and the goal of finding employment soon. It's gonna happen...

The rest of the story is to be told through a Picasa album, so enjoy! (The house isn't done yet. There's still some painting to be done, as well as the final furniture, but this will have to do for now as we are both exhausted.)

  • We subscribed to the local newspaper and got 15 lbs. of onions. Seriously. Headlines included "Free Kittens and Puppies."
  • It's hard to remember that not everyone here is a "student" of our most recent academic institution and quite often, they are actually responsible.
  • We need a boat. Island beaches.
  • It's strange to drive 10 miles to go anywhere. We used to be able to walk. I'm still fond of the drive.
  • This town has the best ACE Hardware... ever. They have everything, including a Radio Shack.
  • Becca loves her tree.

Almost Done

I am almost done with my time here in Oxford. My final two papers are turned in and all I have left is a spreadsheet on education reform and a report on the information. That's due by tomorrow.

This time next week I should be in Georgia, making my triumphant return to my home state. I can't wait.

ThisBowlSucks.Com Bowl

Did the SEC just become an ACC team that goes to DotCom bowl games? Seriously?

I guess the folks in Birmingham decided they would rather have an SEC team than a Conference USA team. This makes sense, but the thing that worries me is what if Georgia has a bad off year and winds up going to Birmingham to play their bowl game? That would mean an SEC-Big East match-up. These have not gone well for Richt and Company (0-2).

The SEC now has 9 bowl tie-ins if we include the Sugar Bowl. With two SEC teams going to the BCS like the last two years, that gives us a possibility of 10 bowl spots. This is smart for the PapaJohns.com bowl because they can probably get a C-USA team if we don't have enough spots. It's just interesting to me that we could have ten bowl teams in a given season. My money is on when that happens, Ole Miss is not one of them.

No More Books

I just finished the last book I will read for my MA program. About 3 books a week for two years... I'm ready to read some fiction for pleasure(or maybe even some history after a break.)
